Nine Lower Valley youth wrestlers capture top honors in Benton City

BENTON CITY - Nine members of two different youth wrestling clubs based in the Lower Yakima Valley brought home top honors from a tournament staged in Benton City last Saturday.

From the Mabton 'Lil Vikings wrestling club, the first place finishers at Benton City included Desanay Guerrero and Gilbert Martinez in the 7/8-year-old age division; Brandon Marquez, Bobby Flores and Angel Rendon in the 9/10-year-old age division; and Frank Martinez and Daniel Vargas in the 13/14-year-old age division.

The Sunnyside Little Guys wrestling club had two first place finishers at Saturday's tourney. They were Izaiah Gonzalez in the 5/6-year-old age division and Harley Hurst in the 9/10-year-old age division.

Also representing the Sunnyside Little Guys club at the Benton City wrestling tourney were J.J. Rodriguez, a 7/8-year-old age division wrestler who placed second; and third place finishers Benjamin Montelongo, Marcel Saenz, Isiah Ferrer and David Vidales.

The Mabton club had two grapplers earn runner-up honors at the tourney-Moises Galindo (5/6-year-olds) and Vesente Mireles (11/12-year-olds).

Third place finishers for Mabton included Andrew Martinez, Max Ritchy, Emilio Mireles and Gustavo Martinez.
