Community residents urged to turnout for life-changing conference, concer

Inspirational speaker and musician Luis Mangandi is slated to speak and perform at the Christian Reformed Church in Sunnyside this Friday and Saturday.

Mangandi, a California evangelist, works with about 500 at-risk youth there. And that's exactly why Sunnyside Pastor Gerry Muller wants Mangandi to deliver his message here.

"He's very inspirational," says Muller, adding that Mangandi was raised in an atmosphere of gangs, drugs and violence. "He came out from that kind of life to become a Christian."

Muller said Mangandi understands the social problems youth face today and that's why it's so important to invite all community members to the free events.

"We want the whole community to be a part of this," said Muller.

"There is a lot of domestic violence in families, a lot of drug influence, a lack of education in families as to how to reach children.

"There's an emptiness in people's hearts," he said.

Muller wants Mangandi's help in stopping unhealthy cycles and helping people see "the love of God and that fulfillment through Jesus Christ."

Muller's seen the change before, when Mangandi came last year.

"We had people that were completely broken. Completely. Today, they are reconciled," said Muller.

Mangandi will lead a Conflicts in the Family conference for youth and parents this Friday, March 30, at 6:30 p.m., as well as Saturday at 4 p.m. On Saturday evening, it's time to enjoy the youth concert Mangandi will be performing in, featuring contemporary Christian music.

All events are free to attend.

The Christian Reformed Church (Iglesia Evangelica Cristiana Reformada) is located at 555 Franklin Court in Sunnyside.
