Hearings set for murder suspects

The Sunnyside teen suspected of killing George P. Salinas III last Monday, April 30, will face a status hearing at 9 a.m. this Friday, May 11, in Yakima County juvenile court.

Bernardo Trevino, 15, is charged with second degree murder in Salinas' shooting death last Monday in Outlook.

Lorena Leon, 15, is charged as an accomplice to second degree murder and will face a status hearing at the same time and date as Trevino.

A third suspect in custody for the murder, 19-year-old Rafael Mendoza, is scheduled for an omnibus hearing on June 7 in Yakima County Superior Court.

The county's juvenile detention manager, Milt Ewing, said this morning that there is no truth to a rumor circulating at Sunnyside High School that any of the three currently held for the murder were themselves killed or harmed while in custody.
