RICHLAND - A first place tie at last week's stop on the 2007 Columbia Basin Senior Golf Tour has the Sunnyside Black Rock Creek team still atop the points standings.
Playing at Richland's Horn Rapids Golf Course, the Black Rock Creek and Walla Walla Veterans golf course squads shared top honors with identical team scores of 707 strokes. Placing third, five strokes back with a 712, was the senior team from Desert Aire.
Akira Nozaka turned in the low score on the day for the Black Rock Creek golfers. Nozaka got around the par-72 track with a 3-over 75. Finishing three strokes back of Nozaka with a 78 was teammate James Noel. The third low scorer for the Sunnyside senior golfers was Terry Matthews. He carded an 82.
On the net side (actual score minus handicap), Black Rock Creek's Dennis Petrea shot 10 strokes below his scoring average. His 62 was the second lowest net score for all nine teams competing.
Also shooting under their handicaps for Black Rock Creek were Tom Diener with a net 66, Don Williams and Chuck Mattocks with net 68's, and Lindyn Andreason and Bernie Schutt with net 69's.
Heading into the Wednesday, May 23, senior tour competition at Desert Aire, the Black Rock Creek team is atop the 2007 points standings with 33.5 points. The Horn Rapids/Canyon Lakes team is sitting in second place with 31 points, with last year's tour champions, the Walla Walla Veterans Golf Course squad, currently in third place with 30.5 points.
