Gordon Wesley Edes, 61, of Sunnyside passed away suddenly on Monday, May 14, 2007, at his home.

He was born April 17, 1946, at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane. As a premature baby with cerebral palsy, he was adopted at birth by his parents, Wesley and Margaret Edes. He received his early education in Boise, Idaho. He graduated from Grants High School in Grants, N. M. in 1964. He attended college at Northwest Nazarene University. He married Audrey (Mason) Edes on July 26, 1975 in Sunnyside.

He worked and owned his own telephone answering service in Sunnyside from 1969 to 1989. He also worked for Little Caesar’s Pizza out of K-Mart. At the time of his death, Gordon was volunteering and working as Gift Shop manager for the Sunnyside Community Hospital.

Gordon enjoyed being a camp counselor for youth. He counseled for more than 30 years without missing a year. He believed in the benefits of camping programs and what a positive impact the camping experience was for kids.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey (Mason) Edes of Sunnyside; one daughter, Karen Edes of Didsbury, Manchester, England; one son, Carl Edes of Sunnyside; his father, Wesley Edes of Sunnyside; one sister, Carolyn Larson and husband, Ernie, of Grandview; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Bolin Edes.

Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2007, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside. Memorials may be made to Pinelow Camp Youth Scholarships, c/o Grandview Nazarene Church, 500 N. Elm in Grandview, WA. 98930. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
