Granger boy dies in farm accident

GRANGER - A six-year-old Granger boy died tragically last night when he was apparently run over by a vehicle or trailer while helping his family feed hay to their cattle.

The incident took place in the 1800 block of West Satus Road, noted Sergeant Carl Hendrickson with the Yakima County Sheriff's office.

He explained that the youth, his father and two other people were in the field. The boy decided to walk back in the snow to the nearby residence while the remainder of the group continued feeding the cattle.

Officials believe what happened next is that the boy either tripped or was struck by the pickup and/or trailer while he was in a blind spot, and was fatally injured.

Family members began CPR at the scene, and continued to attempt resuscitative efforts until medical personnel arrived at the scene. The boy was transported to the Toppenish hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
