Yakima County Sheriff's deputies today are looking for a man who yesterday afternoon reportedly broke into a home in the 1400 block of SLI Road, near Sunnyside, and allegedly fired a shotgun at the resident of the house.
The woman who lives at the rental house noticed a Chevrolet Suburban parked alongside the residence and thought it was the landlord.
Believing her landlord may be at the residence, she entered the house and was allegedly confronted by a man brandishing what is believed to be a shotgun. The victim retreated from the residence at which time deputies say the man fired one round that went completely through an outer wall of the house.
The renter fled the area as the suspect reportedly fired two more rounds from the shotgun. The suspect vehicle was last seen leaving the area westbound on SLI Road toward Sunnyside.
The suspect is described as a white male with short, dark hair and a clean-shaven face. He was wearing a black shirt and spoke English with no accent.
The suspect vehicle is described as a newer model, white Chevrolet Suburban in good condition with shiny, chrome, five-spoke wheels.
The shotgun was not taken from the residence and so is believed to have been brought to the scene by the thief or thieves involved in the case.
The Sheriff's office is asking that anyone with information on the case call 509-574-2500 or Crimestoppers at 509-248-9980.
Also yesterday, deputies were alerted to an automobile theft in the 3000 block of Independence Road, near Sunnyside. The stolen vehicle's license plate number is listed as 598SRE.
Deputies also conducted a welfare check of a man in the 800 block of Hickory Road near Grandview, who reportedly threatened to commit suicide after going into an orchard and pouring gasoline over himself.
The Sheriff's office yesterday was also alerted to a car that had its windshield broken out in the 100 block of B Street in Outlook.
