New leadership needed in Sunnyside

In our humble opinion we believe that we are in great need of some new leadership for the City of Sunnyside.

Our current leadership, specifically the Mayor, has supported a city manager who unfortunately has put our city in a bad situation. Not only did we have to pay to bring Mr. Stockwell to Sunnyside, we now have to pay for him to retire. He leaves us with a huge severance package of over $87,000 that is coming out of our pocket.

Oh, and let's not forget to mention the lawsuits that have been brought against us due to mismanagement of city personnel and the business community.

The Mayor has publicly announced his full support of our former city manger, who has dug deep into the Sunnyside taxpayers' pocket books. We know the Mayor, and personally we believe that he is a good person, however we are very disappointed in his full-support of bad decisions that have been made on our behalf at city hall. It is time for new leadership to come in with a fresh start.

We would like to ask for your support of Tom Gehlen on the November ballot. He is running for City Council Position #7 against the current mayor of Sunnyside.

Tom has lived in Sunnyside for more than 20 years and was the Regional Director of St. Vincent De Paul Stores for 15 years. He knows how to make a business successful, but more importantly he recognizes that success is only possible when people are valued and respected. Tom lives and works in Sunnyside and volunteers his time on community and church committees. He has gotten to know the senior citizens through his current employment with Mary Arthur, the Director of Hillcrest Manor. He truly cares about our community and the people that live and work here and make Sunnyside a great place to live.

Tom is committed to hearing and valuing the public's voice before decisions are made on the city council. He understands how important the public's input is when passing laws that affect our community, and spending money that belongs to the taxpayers. He is not afraid to ask the hard questions when important decisions are being made. He wants positive changes for our community and would like to see our community coming together to resolve issues, instead of more ordinances forcing unjust circumstances on the public. Tom is a humble man with high integrity and he will represent the citizens of Sunnyside honorably.

We admire and are privileged to know Tom Gehlen. He is an incredible individual and a true servant of his community. His willingness to step up and run for City Council shows his love and concern for Sunnyside.

We respectfully ask for your vote of Tom Gehlen on the November ballot. He will make a positive impact on our city council and more importantly on our community.
