Trejo leads 'Hounds to 7-3 soccer win over the Huskies

OTHELLO - Grandview's Lucia Trejo was on fire Saturday, powering in six of the Greyhounds' seven goals for the day.

Trejo, a sophomore, scored her first goal in the 12th minute of play with an assist by senior Anna Maria Sanchez. Just four minutes late, Sanchez scored on an assist by teammate Anna George.

In the 18th minute of play, Othello's Jenny Silva scored a goal unassisted.

"(It seemed like) it was all happening at once," said Coach Anne Holden.

Just one minute later, Sanchez got a ball through two Othello defenders, passed it to Trejo, who scored again.

In the first half, Holden said, Grandview had four shots on goal and scored on three of them. Othello had two.

Going into the second half, Holden told the players to "close the door" on Othello. "That was our task," she said.

Eight minutes into the second half, Trejo scored on assist from Elena Saldana.

Five minutes later, Othello's Lindsey Garza scored a goal.

Trejo scored again just seven minutes later on an assist from Ariceli Delgado.

Othello then scored their third, and final, goal for the day when Husky Chantel Guzman shot the ball in.

Trejo's last two goals for the day came in quick succession. On another assist by Sanchez, Trejo scored in the 76th minute of play, followed by another goal just two minutes later, assisted by Isabel Islas.

"Are we getting better? Absolutely," said Holden. "They're sticking to the plan, they're more confident. They're starting to see all the hard work and conditioning pay off."

Of Trejo's six goals, Holden said, "I've never had anyone score that much (in a game)."

The win moves Grandview's record to 2-7. They next play at Prosser this coming Tuesday.
