YAKIMA - Sunnyside swimmer Kaitlyn Broersma won two of her events last night (Tuesday) against Prosser and West Valley.
She was victorious in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:14.28 against her competitors.
Broersma's winning performance in the 100-meter breaststroke was a "hair" shy of the state qualifying time of 1:12.40. Her time in the event was 1:14.01.
She and her teammates Emily Hutchins, Toni Castillo and Megan Razey competed against the Mustangs and Rams in the 200-meter medley relay, earning third place with a combined time of 2:16.08. In the 400-meter freestyle relay, the team's 4:39.73 performance also earned them third place honors.
Castillo earned runner-up honors in the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter freestyle events with times of 27.68 and 1:00.82, respectively.
"Sunnyside had some good swims," said Coach Holly Dunham-Wheeler.
She noted a fifth place time of 1:38.66 in the 100-meter breaststroke and a clocking of 1:16.00 in the 100-meter freestyle for Hutchins.
Razey competed in the 200-meter freestyle event for Sunnyside with a final time of 2:46.36.
"With only four girls eligible, they did very well in their individual events," Dunham-Wheeler said.
The final scores for the meet were Sunnyside 29, West Valley 136 and Sunnyside 47, Prosser 68.
