As part of the Sunnyside Community Float crew, I have gotten to walk in 17 parades around the state, from Spokane to Seattle.
This has been a rare opportunity to see the "face of America" from a unique perspective.
Observing expressions of young and old, causes me to realize that parades are a great tradition and pleasant form of entertainment. I used to think parades were a passive spectator activity but, from the participant's perspective, the crowd is an active part of the event.
Our best parades have been ones where lots of people line the streets, coming with a sense of anticipation and are responsive and appreciative of the parade entries.
The community float tradition is a rich one. We have been fortunate to have an incredible amount of local business support in the construction and transporting of the Sunnyside Community Float. The time and money invested is quite impressive. So I urge each reader of this (letter) to come to the Sunnyside parade on Saturday. Come with anticipation and enjoy it.
