MOXEE - The 3A Sunnyside High School girls soccer team lost yesterday, Thursday, 6-1 to 2A East Valley in a non-league match.
Sunnyside trailed the Red Devils 3-0 at the half. East Valley then put away the contest from there with a goal in the first minute of the second half and two more about 20 minutes later.
Sunnyside's Sasha Castro put the Grizzlies on the scoreboard with a penalty kick goal in the 66th minute of play.
Sunnyside goalie Yesenia Ruiz had six saves and as a team the Lady Grizzlies had seven shots on goal.
"After our tough match (a 10-0 loss) against Kamiakin, we came out slow in the (East Valley) game," said Coach John Soule. "We had less energy, less determination."
Still, Soule sees hope for Sunnyside's future. "I think the team is continuing to improve," he said. "We need to finally put together a game that plays with our best intensity for the entire 80 minutes, not the 40 or 50 we have had in the past two games."
Sunnyside (0-2, 0-4) travels to West Valley this Saturday.
