OBITUARY

FRED CURTIS HALLETT

Fred Curtis Hallett, 87, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008 in Sunnyside after a short illness.

Fred was born Feb. 8, 1921 in Adams, Neb. to W.E. Scott Hallett and Ina Lewis Hallett. Fred graduated from Yakima Senior High in 19381/2.

He married Helen Bunten on Aug. 5, 1939. That marriage produced three sons, Fred S., Scott and Raymond Hallett. They divorced in 1958. On Oct. 6, 1960 Fred married Bertha "Bert" Seitz Moore. Fred and Bert relocated to Walla Walla in 1961, where Fred was an Allstate Insurance agent until his retirement in 1984.

Fred served as a sergeant during WW II in the 70th Infantry Division, Trailblazers. Fred was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor, the CIB, the Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation, and the European Theater of Operations Medal, with three campaign stars, including the "Battle of the Bulge".

Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed traveling in his motor home. Fred also enjoyed wood working, yard work and visiting with his neighbors and family.

Following a recent family reunion, Fred wrote "It makes me feel proud, down in my heart, to even be somewhat responsible for starting this group of fine citizens. I feel only pride for all of you. Now the party is over, but the memories are still there."

Fred is survived by two sons, Scott C Hallett of Colfax and Ray Hallett of Sunnyside; one stepson, Robert Moore of Sunnyside; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his only brother, Scotty Hallett; one son, Fred Steven Hallett; and one stepson, Gerald Moore.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Stone Creek Recreation Area, at the east end of Stone Creek Place in Walla Walla.
