Grandview girls pick up first win of year

GRANDVIEW - The Lady Greyhound tennis team garnered its first victory of the season yesterday, defeating the Prosser Mustangs 3-2.

No. 1 singles player Rosi Godinez won the opening set over Prosser's Tiana Baker 6-4, but fell to the Mustang 6-4 in the second set. Godinez rallied for a 6-1 victory in the deciding set.

In No. 2 doubles, Grandview's Mariah Coronado bested Hannah Mullen 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(5).

Grandview's first doubles team of Christine Penwell and Sydney Mottice sewed up the team victory by defeating Molly Field and Susan Wilson 6-3, 6-2.

Prosser's No. 2 doubles team of Sandra Schoenhage and Haily Larson defeated Erica Gonzalez and Tania Valdez 6-1, 6-2.

In third doubles, Stephanie Hildebrant and Karmina Markus claimed victory over Grandview's Trina Collins and Erica Medina 6-0, 6-1.

Prosser's boys beat Grandview by a 3-2 score.

Grandview's Rodrigo Fajardo earned one of the Greyhound wins by besting Prosser's Jake Love 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles.

In No. 2 singles, Prosser's John Surmeyer rendered Jose Madrigal scoreless at 6-0, 6-0.

Grandview's first doubles team of Joey Diaz and Edgar Candido picked up the other victory for the Grandview boys, defeating Kellen Crawford and Matthew Young 6-2, 6-7(9), 7-6(4).

Prosser's No. 2 doubles team of A.J. Vegar and Homer Gongora defeated Garrett Walker and Gabe Contreras 6-3, 6-4.

In third doubles, Grandview's Justin Moreno and Roli Solis fell to Matt Taylor and Dillion Chamberlain 6-0, 6-2.
