Weather forecasters call for dry August in Sunnyside

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center is predicting near to below normal temperatures for the month of August, and below normal precipitation.

According to the center, normal highs for Sunnyside during August are 89 degrees and normal lows are 55 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation for August in Sunnyside is .30 inches.

The center released data showing the month of July was slightly hotter than normal for Sunnyside.

The average temperature was 73.6 degrees, which was .8 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 90.9 degrees, which was 1.5 degrees above normal.

The high for the month was 103 degrees on July 1. Low temperatures averaged 56.3 degrees, which was normal. The low for July was 46 degrees on July 31.

Temperatures in July exceeded 90 degrees 15 times with the mercury climbing above 100 degrees just once.

There was no measurable precipitation during July, which is .19 inches below normal.

Precipitation for this year has reached 3.13 inches, which is .68 inches below normal. In the past six months the total precipitation at Sunnyside has been 1.78 inches, which is 1.15 inches below normal.
