Joseph Strunk, 81, of Sunnyside passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at Yakima Regional Hospital.

He was born Nov. 5, 1926 in Mutual, Okla. to Ernest and Desty Flow (Von Schrilt) Strunk.

He spent his early years and received his education in Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years.

On Feb. 11, 1950, he married Lois Nadine Phelan in Sunnyside. He worked for the Flodin brothers in Sunnyside and later at Hanford. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid rose gardener.

He is survived by his two daughters, Dixie Strunk of Lynnwood and Irene Courtney (Jim) of Stehekin; two brothers, Fred Strunk (Lynn) of Tacoma and Carl Strunk of Port Angeles; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Lois.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
