$2,500 scholarship awarded to local student

One of Canaam Steel Corporation's education awards was recently presented to Kassandra Guillen of Sunnyside.

She received a $2,500 scholarship toward her college education at Yakima Valley Community College, where she will study business administration with an emphasis on social work.

The daughter of Daniel Guillen, plant superintendent for Sun Building Systems and Structural Steel at Sunnyside's Canaam plant, Guillen was selected from among several other children of employees of the corporation.

Scholarships are randomly awarded to children of employees. The recipients must have maintained a "C" average or higher in the previous school year.
