Yakima teenager gunned down in Granger

GRANGER - A Yakima man is dead today after reportedly being gunned down in Granger last night, Tuesday.

That's according to the Yakima County Sheriff's office, which is handling the case as requested by the Granger Police Department.

According to investigators working the case, the victim, 18-year-old Enrique Alcala, was driven by a cousin to Granger, possibly to the 900 block of Guzman Street.

Alcala got out of the car and walked a short distance when a mid-size GM sedan drove up to him. The Sheriff's office reports that words were exchanged between occupants of the car and Alcala, followed by a shot fired by one of the people in the vehicle.

Alcala was felled by a single gunshot wound to the chest and his cousin took him to Toppenish Community Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Sheriff's office said an autopsy will be scheduled at a later time.

Also last night, deputies received a call regarding a man in the Outlook area, on Independence Road, who accidentally shot himself in the hand.

In the 1600 block of Maple Grove Road, near Sunnyside, yesterday, deputies fielded a call from a woman who said that someone threw beer bottles at her car and put broken beer bottles in her mailbox.
