These questions and more will be explored in an Alpha course that is being offered in Sunnyside, starting Monday, Sept. 8.
Hosted by the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, the Alpha course is an opportunity for all community residents to explore spirituality from a Christian perspective. Promoters of the informal workshop say the course is a relaxed, non-threatening, low-key place to ask anything...no question is considered too simple or too hostile.
With more than 10 thought-provoking weekly sessions, Alpha guests share meals, listen to a series of talks and then have small group discussions. Each talk covers a fundamental question, such as who is Jesus or does God heal today.
To date, more than 8 million people have completed the Alpha course since it started at the Holy Trinity Brompton Church in London. Today, the course is being run worldwide, in churches, homes, schools, military posts and prisons. The course is supported by churches of different denominations.
There is no cost to attend the Alpha course in Sunnyside, although guests may be asked to make a voluntary contribution toward the meal costs.
Additional information about the Alpha course can be found on-line at: www.alphausa.org.
