Nina W. James, 88, of Sunnyside died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 19, 1919 in Detroit Lakes, Minn. to William and Anna (Aasen) Johnson. She was a registered nurse and a lifetime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Freburn James of Sunnyside; two daughters, Cherelyn Strickland of Mabton and Karyl Kieper of Portland, Ore.; one son, Donald F. James of Yakima; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Clarence Johnson and Elmer Johnson; and one sister, Esther Kootsey.

A memorial funeral service will be held Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
