WHITE SWAN - If you were to ask new Mabton girls basketball coach Chris McCallum, it hasn't taken long for the Lady Vikings to adjust to a new coach. The Lady Vikes played against White Swan last night, defeating the Cougars 58-32.
"It was an all around good game, defensively and offensively," said McCallum. "They're finally getting used to me."
The Lady Vikings fine tuned their man to man defense last night, grabbing 29 boards between Mabton's Trishi Williams, Crysta Reynolds and Monica Tellez.
Going into the game though, things looked a bit uncertain.
"They fell behind 6-0 in the beginning, but fought back to end the first quarter 18-6," said McCallum of his team's efforts.
Williams scored 16 points for the Vikings, while Tellez scored 12 points and had four steals. Reynolds chipped in four points and dished four assists, while Terry Flores finished the night scoring four points. Ana Jimenez scored 12, seven of which were in the first quarter. Brizi Enriquez scored four points. Crystal Martinez scored one point.
The Lady Vikings (2-1) next play against Riverview this coming Saturday at 6 a.m. for their first home game of the season.
