Forty SHS students earn perfect grades

If first semester grades are an accurate indication, Sunnyside High School students have few worries when it comes to passing the state-mandated WASL exam.

All told, 40 SHS students earned perfect 4.00 grade point averages for the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year. And, another 350 students have been named to the regular honor roll for pulling at least a 3.00 GPA.

The highest achieving class at Sunnyside High School for the first semester, far and away, is this year's freshmen. Of the 40 straight-A students, 21 of them are underclassmen. The SHS freshmen also account for 111 of the 350 students who earned GPA's of at least 3.00, roughly 32 percent of the regular honor roll.

The 21 freshman students who earned all A's include Marielle Abbott, Alexus Alvarez, Juan Barajas, Joyanna Bardell, Kelley Bridges, Toni Castillo, Marisol Garcia, Mayra Guizar, Edgar Hernandez, Kaden Johnson, Christine Kim, Ruben Lugo, Blanca Mejia, Humberto Mejia, Emily Meyer, Uriel Osuna, Ryan Rice, Jessie Robert, Kyle Scott, Jillian Spini and Courtney Stiltner.

Another 96 sophomores were named to the first semester honor roll for achieving at least a 3.00 grade point average.
