Laura Mildred Kauer, 92, a longtime Sunnyside resident, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Hillcrest Manor in Sunnyside.
Laura Mildred Havel, daughter of Joe and Albina Havel, was born Feb. 5, 1916 on a farm near Cuba, Kan. As a child, Laura lived and attended schools in the Cuba and Agenda, Kan. areas.
She was united in marriage to Charley Leroy Kauer on Sept. 25, 1935 in Concordia, Kan. Charley and Laura moved to Sunnyside in 1937, where they founded Charley's O.K. Tire Service which they owned and operated until they retired in 1975.
Following their retirement the Kauers traveled, but continued to make their home in Sunnyside.
Laura will always be remembered for her love of shopping and collection of dishes.
Laura is survived by one brother, Clarence Havel (Mary Alice) of Agenda; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as many friends.
She will be sadly missed by her brother and her sister-in law, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Kauer on Dec. 17, 1988; her father and mother; two brothers, Glen J. Havel and Leon W. Havel; and one sister, Olive E. Havel-Erickson.
Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Graveside services for Laura Mildred Havel Kauer will be held Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
