Hortensia Torrez Garza, 70, of Sunnyside passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 surrounded by her family at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane.

Hortensia was born July 28, 1937 in Charlotte, Texas to Nicanor and Rita Navarette Torrez.

She loved being home and enjoying life after retiring in 2003. She loved taking care of her house plants and roses. She also enjoyed walking, watching her soap operas, reading the Bible, working on her jigsaw puzzles and learning new things, and going to the casino with her husband and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Antonio Rudy Garza; three sons, Victor, Dan and Philip; 10 grandchildren, Juan, Nicole, Lacy, Stephanie, Cheyenne, Tony, Austin, Miguel, Nicanor and Victoria; three great-grandchildren; six sisters, Ninfa, Santos, Rita, Oralia, Yolanda and Estellal and two brothers, Alfredo and Nicanor.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her daughter, Gloria; and her sister, Bertha Riojas.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Viewing and visitation will be held today, Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Zillah Cemetery in Zillah.
