Grandview VFW post honored with minuteman statue

The last thing Grandview VFW Post 6929 members were expecting when they took part as Lower Valley honor guard members at a freedom celebration earlier this month hosted by the National Guard 790th Chemical Company was to be singled out for basically adopting the unit, which is based out of Grandview.

Mabton splits league games

A 69-59 loss at home last Friday to the SCAC West-leading Zillah Leopards could have taken the stuffing out of the Mabton Lady Vikings. Instead, the Mabton girls hoop team bounced back on Saturday in Cle Elum's gym to dismantle the Warriors, 66-27.

School board to review graduation policy

The Sunnyside School District's ethics committee is recommending to allow high school seniors who have met all graduation requirements be eligible to participate in graduation if the only thing holding a student back is proving proficiency in an area failed on the WASL test.

Toddler dies in two-car accident

A Sunnyside toddler, who according to Washington State Patrol troopers wasn't restrained by a seatbelt, died yesterday afternoon just outside the city limits at the scene of a two-vehicle accident.

Ambulance service in dire need of funding

Since early February of 2006, Prosser Memorial Hospital CEO Jim Tavery has been seeking solutions to a funding crisis. The problem began when Medicare auditors determined the Prosser Ambulance Service was overpaid in 2004 and 2005 to the tune of $300,000. Tavery expects the amount to increase another $150,000 for 2006.
