Help sought for pro-life flag planting

GRANDVIEW - Members of Grandview's Life Options, a pregnancy medical clinic, will plant 4,000 pink and blue flags at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview at 1201 Missouri Street this coming Saturday and are currently seeking volunteers to assist with the endeavor.

"The flags represent the average number of children who lose their lives to abortion every day in America," explained Life Options Executive Director Jan McDonald.

The flags are planted annually in Grandview in conjunction with Sanctity of Life Sunday, which is Jan. 20 this year.

McDonald said that high school students interested in assisting will be given community service credit from Life Options.

McDonald said, "For every child that's aborted, there's a mom and dad left behind." She added that the parents can suffer from depression, guilt, low self esteem and even drug and alcohol abuse. "We offer services for that," she said.

In terms of the flags, McDonald said, "It's quite the statement. The visual is the statement."

Volunteers interested in assisting with planting the flags need to show up at the church by 9 a.m.
