Donald J. Murphy, 70, died peacefully with his family by his bedside on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, in Hayden Lake, Idaho.

Don was born Dec. 7, 1937 in Glendive, Mont. to Hugh and Gladys Murphy. He grew up in Montana. Don was one of 10 children. Don attended high school at Ronan, Mont., where he met his life long partner and wife, Maxine. The couple married on Feb. 23, 1955 in Libby, Mont. They had five children, two boys and three girls.

Don worked in many different fields including construction, sheet metal journeyman, roofing, sales and a business owner.

Don was an avid fisherman and hunter, but his real passion was for breeding and racing horses.

Upon retirement, he and his wife Maxine moved to Idaho and built a home at Hayden Lake, Idaho. In his later years, Don spent hours working to perfect his home at Hayden Lake. From the trout pond to the slate walkways, Don's hard work could be seen by all who visited.

Don is survived by his children, Debra MacDonald of West Palm Beach, Fla., David (Lisa) Murphy of Temecula, Calif., Carrie Fauth of Hayden, Idaho, Leslie (Kevin) Chase of Mabton and Shannon (Dana) Murphy of Duvall; 10 grandchildren, Patrick, Jonathan, Sean, Andrew, Devon and Josie, Ian, Erin, Jemica, and Ryan; as well as three great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Murphy; his parents, Hugh and Gladys Murphy; and numerous siblings.

A memorial to celebrate Don and Maxine's life will be held in the spring at the Hayden Lake home. Notification will be announced pending confirmation of date and time.
