BICKLETON - The Bickleton Pirates hoop team defeated Yakama Tribal during a league game at home this past Friday night, 79-50.
The victory also snapped a six-game losing streak for the Pirates.
"(We) dominated inside," said Bickleton's Coach Rick Palmer. "(Yakama Tribal) lives and dies by three-point shots and nothing was working for them."
Bickleton's Eric Hess was on fire, scoring 25 points and grabbing 35 rebounds. "He was on a mission and it's nice to see him do that," said Palmer.
Teammate Cody Loomis was the top scorer with 34 points for Bickleton.
Hess and teammate Edgar Molina were nursing ankle injuries, which had forced the cancellation of last Thursday night's non-league game against Mabton. Palmer said Hess and Molina's injuries are still somewhat tender, but "they are doing pretty good."
Molina scored in double digits for the Pirates, with 16 points and seven rebounds. Teammate Andrew Venema scored four points and had nine rebounds.
All told, the team had 16 assists overall.
"We needed this (win)," said Palmer.
Bickleton (1-5, 6-6) next plays against Sunnyside Christian High School this coming Tuesday.
