Kari Valborg (Larson) Hinthorne, 65, of Renton, a former resident of Leavenworth, died Monday morning, Jan. 21, 2008, at her home.
She was born Kari Valborg Larson on March 25, 1942, in Leavenworth to Enoch and Evelyn (Pickett) Larson. She grew up and attended school in Leavenworth, graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1960. She attended the University of Puget Sound and Tacoma General School of Nursing.
On June 10, 1962, she married her high school and college sweetheart, Richard D. Hinthorne in Tacoma. Their daughter Kim was born in 1963, and son Brad in 1964. She returned to school when the children were older, graduating with her nursing degree from Shoreline Community College in 1971.
She worked part-time at a nursing home in Seattle, followed by 25 years as an emergency room nurse at the Community Hospital in Toppenish and most recently, at Pediatric Associates in Bellevue. Kari enjoyed her career, family, music, traveling, gardening and cooking.
She was a devoted wife and mother and an incredibly giving person. Kari is survived by her husband, Richard, of the family home; a daughter, Kim Johnson (Jay), of Bothell; and grandchildren, Joe and Gina; and son, Brad Hinthorne (Marcie), of Seattle; and grandchildren, Adam and Ben Hinthorne; a sister, Susan Myers (Virgil), of Outlook; and a brother, David Larson (Lana), of Leavenworth; a aunt, Cleo Fulwiler of Leavenworth; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Enoch and Evelyn Larson.
A memorial service of commemoration for Kari Hinthorne will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church, with Pastor Roger Hudson officiating. The service will conclude in the church, with private family interment at Mt. View Cemetery.
