Joan Leonard Holden, 72, a longtime Sunnyside resident, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born May 31, 1935 in Yakima, the daughter of Warren Craig and Maxine Margaret (Addington) Leonard. Joan received her early education in Toppenish.

On Nov. 18, 1959, she married Bill Holden in Sunnyside, where they together made their home.

Joan worked for the United Telephone Company as a telephone operator for many years and later owned and operated Sunnyside Tropical Fish Store.

She enjoyed camping, boating and art.

Joan is survived by her husband, Bill Holden of Sunnyside; children, Tricia Swynenburg (Kevin), of Federal Way, Laurel Taggart of Puyallup, Lynn Smith (David), of Grandview and Tyler Holden of Sunnyside; five grandchildren, Trevor and Kendall Swynenburg, Abigail and Aaron Taggart and Justin Smith; and two great-grandchildren, KJ and Kiley; and her brother, Ronald Leonard (Kathy), of Monroe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Richard Leonard.

Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, from 2 to 6 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Private family graveside services will be held at the Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima.
