Blood drawing exceeds goal

The Yakima Valley Dairy Women, with Edna Golob as chairperson, sponsored a very successful blood drawing on June 24, at Sunnyside's United Methodist Church hall. We were pleased to have exceeded our goal of 70 units. We had 84 presenters and five first-time donors. Twelve were unable to give, leaving 71 units collected. Because of the donors' generosity, 213 people will have another chance at life.

A special thank you to the sponsors for the juice, home-baked cookies, cheese, crackers and ice cream bars. Thanks also to United Methodist Church for the use of its hall, to Max for displaying the banner at Centennial Square and to the Daily Sun News for the front page coverage of the importance of donating blood.

Many thanks to the following volunteers: Alice Benedetti, Myrtis Lang, Ella Mae Lochner and Bev Koopmans.

A very special thank you to all the donors, who turn out to give the gift of life.

Please join us at the next American Red Cross blood drawing on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the United Methodist Church hall, from 1 to 6 p.m.

/s/ Marie Handy, Sunnyside blood drawing chairperson
