Pot plants found in Sunnyside

Alert citizens led police to the discovery of more than 100 marijuana plants in Sunnyside this past Saturday.

LEAD Drug Task Force Detective Scott Bailey said the plants were recovered from the 100 block of Factory Road around 4:30 p.m.

Witnesses saw several young men in a building and thought it looked suspicious, Bailey said. When the witnesses investigated they found the suspects and several hanging marijuana plants that were drying. The witnesses detained the suspects there until police arrived.

When Sunnyside police arrived on scene they called the drug task force.

Bailey said the plants appeared to have been grown outdoors at another location and had recently been harvested. The plants are estimated to have a street value of between $80,000 and $100,000.

Two adults and two juveniles were arrested in connection with the marijuana, but Bailey said the task force will not release the names at this time due to a continuing investigation.
