Sunnyside's Joe Rodriguez traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah this past Tuesday for the purpose of auditioning for the popular television talent contest, American Idol.
Rodriguez, according to his aunt Cyndi Correa, arrived at the EnergySolutions Arena just before 5 a.m. He awaited his turn to audition before the judges, but was never afforded the opportunity.
"They closed the auditions late into the evening before he had a chance," said Correa.
She said Rodriguez is not giving up hope and has wishes of pursuing his dream.
Unfortunately, her nephew will need further financial support from the community if he is to audition this year.
"The next audition he might be able to go to, if the money is available, is in Kansas City, Missouri on Aug. 8," said Correa, stating Rodriguez feels strongly about providing a good example for the Sunnyside community.
She said if anyone in the community would be willing to provide donations toward Rodriguez's dream, they can call her at 831-6345.
"This is Joe's dream," Correa said.
