Cooler June expected for Sunnyside

A chilly June is expected throughout the month, according to the National Weather Service's Pendleton, Ore. office.

Sunnyside can expect below normal temperatures in June, but near normal precipitation.

Normal highs for Sunnyside during June are 82.1 degrees and normal lows are 52.4 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.42 inches.

June's forecast is in contrast to May, which averaged slightly warmer than normal temperatures in Sunnyside.

The average temperature in May was 61.6 degrees, 0.9 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 75.1 degrees, normal for Sunnyside. The highest was 96 degrees on May 18 and the month's low was 31 degrees on May 1.

Low temperatures for the month averaged 48.1 degrees, which was 1.9 degrees above normal.

In May, Sunnyside had one day with a low temperature below 32 degrees. On two days the temperature exceeded 90 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 0.57 inches during May, which was 0.01 inches above normal. Measurable precipitation-at least .01 inch-was received on nine days with the heaviest, 0.13 inches, reported on May 25.

Precipitation this year has reached 2.78 inches, which is 0.42 inches below normal. In the past six months, the total precipitation at Sunnyside has been 3.56 inches, which is 0.80 inches below normal.
