Hermenegildo "Herman" Castro, 74, of Sunnyside died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Yakima Regional Hospital.

He was born April 13, 1934 in Elsa, Texas to Gregorio and Rosa (Lugo) Castro.

On Sept. 27, 1952, he married Guadalupe Martinez in South Bend, Ind.

He worked for Johnson Fruit and Cold Storage and Emerald Ranches before retiring in 1975.

He is survived by his wife, Guadalupe Castro of Sunnyside; his children, Carmen Castro (Juan) of Grand Rapids, Mich., Carolina Smith (Tony) of Holland, Mich., Cathy Flesey of Portland, Ore., Donna Shipman (Ken) of Granger and Eva Adams (Craig) of West Richland; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Rosa, Josefina, Margarita, Nena, Carmela, Cruz, Petra, Rene and Pete.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Greg Castro; one brother, Noé Castro; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Nicole Smith.

Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, June 13, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
