Margie Ann Stonemetz, 56, of Sunnyside passed from this life to a life promised on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Regional Hospital in Yakima.
She was born April 1, 1952 in Sunnyside to Marion and Leah (Tucker) Rice. She graduated from Granger High School and attended business college to become a bookkeeper.
On April 30, 1972, she married her high school sweetheart, Gary Stonemetz. Together they had two sons, Eric and Aaron. Margie and Gary farmed and owned Sunnyside Custom Cannery until 1996. She also did bookkeeping for several entities.
As a youth she was a 4-H member, winning many awards. She was honorary 4-H leader. She was also secretary of the Granger Alumni Association.
She was a lifetime member of Liberty Community Church, where she taught Sunday school and held several positions. She especially enjoyed studying the Bible.
She enjoyed doing for others, cross-stitching, sewing and shopping. She loved being Grandma and watching her grandchildren play sports and just hanging out with them.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Stonemetz of Sunnyside; sons, Eric Stonemetz (Nicole) of Yakima, Aaron Stonemetz (Melinda) of Spokane; grandchildren, Jacob, Rebekah, Leigha, Lindsey and Tyler; her brother, Jim Rice of Yakima; sisters, Janet Sample of Prosser, Karen Anderson of Ellensburg and Gayle Brons of Outlook.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Leah Rice; and a granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 12, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Liberty Community Church of Granger, Alumni Scholarship Fund or Life Options Lower Valley Pregnancy Center.
