Don't know about you, but I was alarmed to hear about the drive-by shooting at Sunnyside City Hall this past weekend.
Drive-bys happen often enough that I suppose a person could become desensitized to them after awhile.
But city hall is different. Whatever views, favorable or otherwise, you may have had about city government, the city hall represents us. You and me. It belongs to we the people.
It kind of reminds me of the wild, wild west where the law was a six-shooter. At least in those days, the gunners showed their faces and the justice they met was swift and...in today's terms cruel and unusual punishment.
But I digress.
Is Sunnyside becoming a Dodge City, where scofflaws gun down law and order?
I hope not. I pray not.
Which leads me to this thought: Whether the shooters were just out for a thrill ride or deliberately firing at city government, why not come up with a reward for their capture.
Crime Stoppers has found the lure of a reward helpful in ferreting out evil-doers. Why not band together and put some funds together to serve as a reward, an incentive to turn over the city hall shooters.
It seems this drive-by can't be allowed to pass us by, to become forgotten news.
The gunfire is directed not just at a building, the shooters were gunning at you and me.
Let's fire back with a reward for their capture.
