Thanks to the combined efforts of numerous Sunnyside organizations, free movies will once again be offered at Central Park.
According to Lisa Fairbairn of Sunnyside's Promise, a partnership between her organization, Sunnyside Community Hospital, Hapo Community Credit Union, the city of Sunnyside, the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce and the school district is making three movie showings possible.
Fairbairn said that a movie showing last year at the park drew a crowd of about 200 people and was met with great enthusiasm. For that reason, three movies will be shown this summer, beginning in July.
Hapo Community Credit Union will provide the inflatable movie screen and the hospital is purchasing the licensing agreements to show the three movies.
Fairbairn said the licensing agreements strictly prohibit advertising or announcing in the newspaper what the movie titles will be, but posting them on the internet is allowed. As the movie titles are selected, they'll be posted on the city and chamber of commerce websites.
She did say, though, that all three of the movies will be suitable for families.
"We want to provide a safe place for our families and give them something to do," she said of the free movie nights in Central Park.
The dates for the movies are Friday, July 25, Friday, Aug. 22, and Friday, Sept. 19. All movies will start at 8 p.m.
Fairbairn said efforts are currently underway to find organizations willing to sell concessions at the movies.
