GRANDVIEW - The Grandview Neptunes defeated Naches 444-285 in Grandview's first home meet of the season last night.
According to Nicole Walker of Grandview, "This is one of Grandview's largest teams in a long time." She continued, stating the team has approximately 85 swimmers, 25 more than the 2007 season.
The team's successful performances began with win from the girls and boys 10 and under 200-medley relay performances. The Grandview girls 12 and under had one team earn first place honors and a second team in the same age bracket earned runner-up honors. Another win was earned by the boys 12 and under 200-yard medley relay team.
Grandview's Micah Binfet won top honors in the boys 10 and under events. He clocked 45.50 in the 50-yard butterfly, 37.65 in the 50-yard breaststroke, 33.22 in the 50-yard freestyle and 3:27.17 in the 200-yard individual medley.
In the boys 12 and under events, stand-out performances were given by Grandview's Jose Castilleja. He outperformed Barracuda swimmers with a time of 29.43 in the 50-yard butterfly, 36.89 in the 50-yard breaststroke, 24.95 in the 50-yard freestyle and 2:56.31 in the 200-yard individual medley.
For the Grandview girls, Tiffany Owens earned three top finishes in the 14 and under events. She clocked 32.06 in the 50-yard breaststroke, 31.63 in the 50-yard backstroke and 2:25.34 in the 200-yard individual medley.
Grandview Coach Jack Mariotti said he feels the team is doing very well and he is confident with the performances from all of the swimmers.
"They are working really hard. The water is cold and they keep improving their times," he stated of the Neptune swimmers.
Grandview's next meet is in Selah against the Dolphins Tuesday, June 17, at 6:30 p.m.
