Augustina Varela, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, leaves behind a large and grateful family touched by her boundless love and generosity.

Augustina (Tina) left this life to join her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, June 21, 2008, surrounded by her family. She was released from the limitations of aging and the pains of diabetes to join her family who have preceded her and made a place for her in heaven.

She worked for decades at the Western Union desk and alongside her husband at Al's Shoe Repair on West Second Street in Grandview. To know Tina was to know that she loved her family, her friends, fishing and her time at the casino. She was as generous as she was lucky. All who were touched by her mourn her passing and look forward to meeting her again in heaven.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Albert Varela of Grandview; her brothers, Louie Morales of Wapato and Amador (Joe) Morales of Yakima; her sister, Helen Acosta of Cerritos, Calif.; her children, Faustino (Tino) Varela and wife Audrey of Yakima, Arturo (Art) Varela and wife Kami of Mabton, Dolores (Lori) Varela of Yakima and Cynthia (Cindi) Varela and husband Dan Terry of Mill Creek; along with grandchildren, Christa Colton (Ray) of Yakima, Nick Terry (Monica) of Mill Creek, Hunter Albert Varela of Mabton; and great-grandchildren, Joshua and Taylor Colton of Yakima.

A viewing will take place on the evening of Wednesday, June 25, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grandview with a Rosary commencing at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 26, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Grandview. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
