Tarpons steal road victory from Neptunes


Neptune Taylor Hall surfaces for air in the girls 12&U 40-yard breaststroke against Toppenish Tuesday evening. She earned fourth place honors in the event, clocking 37.22.

GRANDVIEW - Last night's swim meet between Grandview and Toppenish in the Neptunes' home pool went the Tarpons' way, 476-318.

However, the Grandview team (1-3) rallied for several wins against the stronger Toppenish team.

Earning three victories apiece for Grandview were girls 14&U swimmer Tiffany Owen and boys 14&U swimmer Jared Churchill.

Owen earned top honors in the 40-yard breaststroke, the 40-yard backstroke and the 160-yard individual medley events, with times of 32.22, 33.06 and 2:29.16, respectively. She earned runner-up honors in the butterfly event, clocking a time of 28.34.

Churchill outperformed Toppenish in the 40-yard butterfly, 40-yard breaststroke and the 160-yard individual medley. He spanned the pool in 27.37, 33.53 and 2:02.56, respectively. He also earned runner-up honors in the 40-yard breaststroke, clocking 33.53.

Top performances were also garnered by the Grandview girls 12&U 160-yard medley relay team, which clocked a time of 2:13.84. The team consisted of Tiana Perez, Meghan Marquez, Taylor Hall and Madison Trevino.

The Neptune girls 14&U 160-yard medley relay team, comprised of Jessica Hall, Samanta Castaneda, Kara Phillips and Owen, earned top honors with a time of 2:06.06.

For the Grandview boys, Ryan Contreras, Spencer Blanshan and Keagan Christensen clocked the winning time of 1:41.53 in the 160-yard medley relay, outmatching the Tarpons.

Neptune girls 18&U competitor Cheyen Schenck earned top honors in two events. She clocked the winning times of 29.31 in the 40-yard butterfly and 33.72 in the 40-yard breaststroke. She earned runner-up honors in the 160-yard individual medley, clocking 2:47.34.

For the boys, Ryan Contreras earned two wins for Grandview. He outperformed the Tarpons in the boys 16&U 40-yard butterfly and the 160-yard individual medley, clocking 24.12 and 2:11.85, respectively.

Grandview's Jose Castilleja earned top honors in the boys 12&U 40-yard butterfly, clocking 29.31 against his competition. He followed that win with another in the 12&U 40-yard freestyle and runner-up honors in the breaststroke, clocking times of 23.19 and 35.41, respectively.

Grandview's Fabian Ruiz was first for the Neptunes twice. He clocked 33.25 in the 14&U breaststroke and 22.06 in the freestyle. He also earned runner-up honors in the 160-yard individual medley.

Jessica Hall outperformed Toppenish in the girls 14&U 40-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 28.19.

Another winning performance was that of Kinzi Poteet. The Grandview girls 16&U competitor outclocked Toppenish with a time of 23.91 in the 40-yard butterfly.

In girls 8&U, Kylie Colson of Grandview earned a victory for her performance in the 40-yard breaststroke. She clocked 53.91 in the event.

Boys 10&U competitor Micah Binfet earned first place honors for the Neptunes, clocking 35.69 in the breaststroke.

Grandview's Matt Concienne earend top honors in the boys 18&U backstroke, clocking a time of 26.13. Teammate Keagan Christensen earned runner-up honors with a final time of 27.19 in the event. Concienne also earned runner-up honors in the 40-yard freestyle, clocking 20.31.

Another of the girls 14&U competitors for Grandview, Kara Phillips, also earned top honors. She clocked 25.28 in the 40-yard freestyle, edging out teammate Jessica Hall. Phillips earned runner-up honors in the 160-yard individual medley with a time of 2:35.87.
