Jose Gonzalez, 64, a longtime Sunnyside resident, died Saturday, March 1, 2008.

He was born Feb. 28, 1944 in Mercedes, Texas, the son of Panfilo and Trindad (Resendez) Gonzalez. He received his education in Texas. He later served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

He married Helen Corona in Prosser.

He had been employed at Darigold as a cheese maker.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Gonzalez of Sunnyside; one daughter, Delia Hernandez (Remigio) of Fresno, Calif.; three sons, Mike Gonzalez of Sunnyside, Richard Gonzalez of Yakima, and Jose Gonzalez (Oralia) of Escondido, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; six

brothers, Enrique "Henry" Gonzalez of Kent, Antonio Gonzalez and Reynaldo Gonzalez, both of Grandview, Carlos Gonzalez of Bellingham, Panfilo Gonzalez Jr. of Sunnyside and Angel Gonzalez of Pasco; four sisters, Maria Guadalupe Mendez and San Juana Martinez, both of Sunnyside, Manuela G. Garcia of Grandview and Carmen McKinny of Richland.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside. Burial will be held at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside with military honors.
