I think the City of Sunnyside is making a big mistake not returning to four lanes on Yakima Valley Highway. This is like going back in time.
If the City of Sunnyside wants to be on the map and compete with other cities in the Valley, they had better restore the highway to four lanes. It would very much disappoint all the visitors from all over coming through Sunnyside to see a skimpy two-lane road going right straight through town.
A four-lane worked before and it will work again.
Don't blame pedestrian accidents on a four-lane highway. Not too long ago there was a pedestrian accident at a traffic light crossing on a two-lane with turn lane (16th and Yakima Valley Highway). So don't use that as an excuse for not having a four-lane.
I, like many others that have lived here for a much longer period of time than some of the city fathers, favor a four-lane, not a two-lane highway. That's progress.
As I mentioned before, a two-lane will make it look like going back in time 20 to 30 years or more, and who wants that?
