Martin W. Saldana Sr., 81, of Grandview went to be in the arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Yakima Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Feb. 13, 1927 in Weslco, Texas to Jesus Saldana and San Juana Mendoza. In May 1945, Martin was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. While in the service he traveled to many places, such as New York, France and Germany. In August of 1946, Martin was honorably discharged.
In 1944, he started his family in Texas, and later settled in Grandview, where his family continued to grow.
Martin enjoyed traveling, socializing with friends and cherished time spent with his family.
He is survived by Rosa C. Saldana of Grandview; 10 sons, Mario Saldana Sr. (Noemi), Miguel Saldana Sr. (Connie), Modesto Saldana (Debbie), and Majin Saldana, all of Grandview, Maximino Saldana Sr. (Elva), Marcos Saldana (Martha), Marsiano Saldana Sr. (Sally), all of Sunnyside, Menjamin Saldana (Elida) and Moses Saldana, all of Kennewick, Margarito Saldana of North Dakota; and three daughters, Martha Yanez, Emma Saldana-Payan (Ignacio), all of Sunnyside, and Minerva Flores (Victor Jr.), of Grandview; 73 grandchildren, 108 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great- grandchildren; his three brothers, Nicholas of Weslaco, Texas, Nacho Saldana and Victor Saldana, both of Sanger, Calif.; and one sister, Angelica of Lubbock, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Martin Jr. and Manuel; three daughters, Margarita, Mary and Magdalena; two brothers; and two sisters.
Viewing and visitation will be held Sunday, March 16, 2008, from 3 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 5 p.m. and on Monday, March 17, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grandview. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 17, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview, with burial to follow at Grandview Cemetery.
