Paul Erik Lopez, 24, of Granger died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Yakima Regional Hospital.

Paul was born Aug. 27, 1983 in Weslaco, Texas, the son of Teodoro Ortiz and Barbara Jean Lopez. Paul earned his GED in 2001. He later worked as a forklift operator and bouncer.

On May 31, 2005, Paul married Esperanza Lopez in Yakima.

He enjoyed fishing, swimming, boating, working on his car, having barbeques, cruising, joking, golfing and playing video games. Lately he was learning to ride his (crouch rocket) motorcycle.

Paul is survived by his wife, Esperanza Lopez of Granger; three children, Robert Lopez, Yasmine Lopez, both of Granger, and Lizet Hurtado of Yakima; his father, Teodoro Ortiz; his mother and stepfather, Barbara Jean and Manuel C. Torres of Yakima; one sister, Sonia Lee Ramirez; and two brothers, Jeremy James Lopez and Teodoro Lopez.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Maxina Zapapa; and one uncle, Ramon Ortiz.

Viewing and visitation will be held today, March 27, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside and on Friday, March 28, 2008, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 28, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger, with burial to be held at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
