Fajardo moves on to Districts as No. 1 seed

SELAH - Following yesterday's CWAC sub-district tennis match, Grandview's Rodrigo Fajardo is moving on to the District tourney as the #1 seed for the CWAC South.

Fajardo defeated Wapato's Rogelio Ruiz 6-2, 6-2 Monday afternoon for the berth.

Also going into Districts as the #1 seed for the CWAC South are Grandview doubles players Christine Penwell and Sydney Mottice, who defeated Prosser's Molly Field and Susan Wilson in Selah yesterday after dropping the first set 4-6, but rallying for wins in the next two 6-2, 6-3.

Perhaps the biggest upset of the day was Lady 'Hound Rosi Godinez's 6-4, 6-2 victory against East Valley's Katie Wilson, the number four seed going into sub-district. In the consolation finals, Godinez fell to Toppenish's Cintia Gil 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), but will still move on to Districts as the #4 seed from the CWAC South.

In boys doubles, Prosser's Kellen Crawford and Matthew Young defeated Grandview's Joey Diaz and Edgar Candido 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Diaz and Candido move on to Districts as the #2 seed for the CWAC South.

The District tournament is scheduled to begin this Thursday, May 15, at 4 p.m. at Ephrata High School and will conclude on Saturday, May 17.
