Fajardo, Penwell, Mottice win District tourney openers

SELAH - The Greyhounds tennis team trekked to Selah yesterday for the first round of Districts and next will travel to Ephrata this coming Saturday.

Grandview singles player Rodrigo Fajardo defeated Quincy's Blake Van Dyke Thursday afternoon at Selah 6-2, 6-3. Fajardo will square off against Othello's Adam Beus on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and the winner of that match will advance to State competition.

The Grandview girls doubles team of Christine Penwell and Sydney Mottice defeated Othello's Jaydee Roylance and Pricilla Cantu 6-2, 6-3 yesterday. The Lady 'Hounds next play Mercedes Chandler and Amy Anderson of Ellensburg in District tourney semi-finals play on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Grandview singles player Rosi Godinez lost her match yesterday to Ellensburg's Katie Kelleher 6-1, 6-1. Godinez will play against Ephrata's Chloe Schmidt in a loser-out match on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Ephrata.

Grandview's Joey Diaz and Edgar Candido fell to Othello's Sam Harris and T.D. Peterson 6-1, 6-3 yesterday. They'll play a loser-out game against Toppenish's Francisco Carrieado and Ammon Stancliffe at 11 a.m. this Saturday.
