Grandview Lady 'Hounds knocked into loser's bracket

ELLENSBURG - Grandview's Lady 'Hounds fell to the Ellensburg Bulldogs 6-0 last night, Thursday, in the first round of District play-offs, but they didn't go down without a fight.

"Even though we lost, we played a heck of a game," said Assistant Coach Mark Ware. "It was a zero-zero ball game for the first three innings."

Grandview pitcher Chris Mendoza allowed only seven hits and three walks during the seven-inning game.

"She did a good job changing speed and location to keep the Ellensburg hitters off balance," said Grandview Coach Doug Hansen.

Lady 'Hound Doris Lupercio was 2-for-3, including a leadoff triple in the fourth inning, but the Greyhounds were unable to push across a run.

Teammate Vanessa Medina had Grandview's other hit, a perfect two-hop slap to the shortstop, which she easily beat out.

Lady 'Hound Kayla Gonzalez had a crowd-pleasing catch on a screaming line drive to left field during the game. Teammates Gio Gomez and Medina worked a perfect play, recording an out at second base.

"After being blown out by Ellensburg in league play, (we) gave the Bulldogs a good effort in the first round," Hansen said.

Grandview's next opponent is Ephrata at Othello at 10 a.m. this coming Saturday.
