DENA OORD

Dena (Muis) Oord, 85, of Eagle, Idaho, passed away Friday, May 16, 2008, at a local care center.

She was born on July 5, 1922, in the Netherlands to Marten and Jansje Muis. She was raised along the canal in Bergentheim with her sister, Jenny and brother, Johannes. She met her dear husband, John, while attending grade school in town. Following the end of the war, they married on May 21, 1947, and moved to the Oord family farm on the opposite side of the canal from her family's home. Her father, a carpenter, remodeled a section of the farm to accommodate the newlyweds.

After their oldest child, John, was born they immigrated to California to seek new possibilities. The family eventually purchased a dairy farm in the Dairy Valley area of southern California where Dena devoted her life to raising her family, based on her strong faith in God. Her love of singing hymns could be witnessed as she joyfully sang her favorites while completing her chores. She also participated in the All Church Choir's annual performance of Handel's Messiah.

Another passion in life for Dena was participating in the Dutch tradition of "Gezelligheid", spending time sharing warm conversation and something good to eat with family and friends. In addition to sharing with family and friends in America, Dena enjoyed traveling back to the Netherlands to share some "Gezelligheid" while visiting with numerous family and friends.

Dena has spent the last year, living at Ashley Manor in Eagle, Idaho. The family wishes to thank the staff for the kind and loving care they provided for our Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. We also wish to thank them for the love and concern provided to us, as family members, during this time of loss.

Dena is survived by her three children, John (Janice), Janet and Henry (Lori); her five grandchildren, Brian (Shannon), Carrie (Ryan), David (Emily), Rachel and Colleen; and her two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Natalie. Living in the Netherlands are her sister, Jenny; sister-in-law, Ali; and four sisters and a brother of her husband, John.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John (October, 1978).

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Eagle Church of the Nazarene, Eagle. Graveside services and burial will be held at 1 p.m., today, May 19, 2008, at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 West G Street, Ontario, Calif.
