Hope Lurain (Hudson) Graham, 89, longtime resident of the Outlook-Liberty community passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, in Yakima.
She was born Oct. 31, 1919 in Sunnyside to Tom and Nell (Perry) Hudson. She attended school at Liberty and graduated from Granger High School.
On Dec. 27, 1935, Hope and Ernest E. Graham were married. Together, they farmed and ranched in the Outlook area until 1998 when they retired and moved to Yakima.
She was a lifelong member of the Liberty Community Church. She had been a treasurer for the church, a Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible school teacher. She was very active in the church, attending regularly and helped plan and help with the different activities.
Hope and Ernie were long time members of the Yakima County and Washington State Cattlemen's Association. She held several offices in the Yakima County Cattlewomen's Association. She was also very proud of the many years she spent on the local election board at voting time.
Hope and Ernie were married 67 years before his passing in 2003. They were very good parents, responsible citizens and always willing to help family, friends and their neighbors. They will now be together forever.
She is survived by four sons, Gary Graham (Nancy) of Shelton, Tom Graham (Janet) of Stevens Point, Wis., Gene Graham (Sharon) of Otis, Ore. and Ron Graham (Diana) of Yakima; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; her parents, Tom and Nell Hudson; and an older sister, Beth (Hudson) Uribe.
The family extends a "special thanks" to the very caring staff at Englewood Heights Retirement Community and at Arbor House full time care facility, both in Yakima. They loved Hope and took very good care of her. In Hope's final days, the care and help for her and to the family by the Lower Valley Hospice has been wonderful. Thank you all very much.
Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at the Outlook Cemetery.
